Introducing the Sonia Sotomayer Pearl Threader Earrings, a stunning addition to our Cluster Earring Cjjopsollection. These earrings feature two different-sized, organically shaped pearl gemstones that hang in a cluster from a delicate threader style earring. The pictures in this listing showcase the earrings made with a cable chain threader, offering a thinner and more flexible chain component compared to our other threader options. However, you also have the choice to select a box chain threader, which provides a thicker look.

The versatility of threaders allows for various wearing styles. For example, those with a double piercing can thread the earring through both holes, making the cable chain style ideal. If you have a single piercing, the thicker box chain will stand out more. It's all about how you want to wear them and express your unique style. If you prefer one chain style over the other, please indicate which one you would like us to send in the "Add a Note" section of the Cart page at purchase. If you don't add your preference to the order, we will send your earrings with whichever style threader is readily available.

As a proud female-owned business, we name each of our pieces after iconic women who have made a significant impact on our world throughout history and/or present time. These threaders are part of our Cluster Earring Collection, with each pair named after Sonia Sotomayer, the first Hispanic woman to serve in the US Supreme Court. To learn more about Sonia and her achievements, please refer to the additional information sections at the bottom of this product page.

Pearls are the modern birthstones for June and the zodiac birthstone for Gemini, symbolizing purity, faith, innocence, and integrity. They are also known for their inner wisdom and offer intense healing properties as they carry the movement of water within them.

Pearls are the only jewels in the world that are created by a living animal. Whats more, compared to gemstones that are found in the ground, pearls are the only gems that do not need to be cut, polished, or mined! There are two different types of pearls - natural and cultured. Those used in our design are the more affordable variety - the cultured pearl. While they may be more cost effective, cultured pearls are of equal or higher quality than their natural counterparts - but how is this possible? To find the answer we have to take a look at the pearl's creation process.
Natural pearls are made organically inside a mollusk or oyster when an irritant, such as sand or salt water, comes in contact with the animal's soft muscle tissue. This triggers its defense mechanism causing it to produce layers of secretions, which slowly develop into a pearl. Sea borne predators, oyster divers, and pollution are only a few factors that cause oysters in the ocean to succumb to premature deaths, making natural pearls an incredible rarity - it takes 100,000+ animals to create a single strand!  To combat the increasingly high prices of natural pearls, humans have developed the cultured pearl. Cultured pearls are made using the same process as a natural pearl, only the irritant is deliberately inserted into the oyster through human intervention. The oysters used to create cultured pearls are kept in controlled environments that increase the survival rate of the oyster. These factors allow oyster farmers to create high quality pearls at a much faster rate, thus creating an affordable market for pearls. Ultimately, the only difference between natural and cultured pearls is the way the irritant makes its way into the animal's muscle tissue. Cultured pearls are grown inside the animal in the same way as their natural equivalent and therefore create gemstones of the same quality. In fact, the cultivation process of cultured pearls has experienced such incredible technological advances over the past decade that some consider them to be higher quality than those grown naturally! And it's a good thing cultured pearls have come so far - according to the American Gem Society, most of the ocean's natural pearls have already been collected by oyster divers. There are very few, if any, left in the seas to harvest anymore.

The metals used in this pair of earrings are 14k gold-filled, providing durability and hypoallergenic qualities. Unlike lower-quality gold-plated jewelry, gold fill will not turn your skin green or cause irritation. It can withstand daily wear, even in the shower, without fading or flaking off. With proper care, gold fill jewelry can last a lifetime.
